Review: Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day

It was a delightful movie. The plot flowing fast and smoothly, the humor of Miss Pettigrew, time period, dresses, music, fitly reasonable use of exaggerated acting... and the fusion of all of these ingredients.

It was the first time I saw Tom Payne in a movie, and it was such a pleasure to watch him. His gestures were amazing, especially his face transforming from one reaction to another.

But it's a pity I couldn't get together Miss Pettigrew's personality, although Delysia is easy to figure out. Because we see her one-day metamorphosis. We have no background understanding (apart from the first 10 minutes which is mostly about her life not her character). Moreover, everything is happening so fast. The way she reacts changes throughout the movie (at the same time her life changes which is the point of this movie of course), so do we really get to see Miss Pettigrew as she is? Yes we do, but it doesn't make a whole package. There's a beautiful character development but... But I couldn't predict how she should act. Like, isn't  suddenly smoking that cigar is too bold for her, and swearing? Has she adapted to that glamourous atmosphere and upper-class adult games just like that? A couple of hours is enough for this metamorphosis? May be it was finally the time for her to break out of her shell and boundaries.

Regardless of my "deciphering a character" struggles, I totally enjoyed the movie and recommend it.
