What Tommy T thought me

I was reading a fashion magazine when I found out Gogol Bordello are coming to Istanbul to play at a festival. I sent a message to the bass player whom I'd met about two years ago in Tokyo. Tommy, Pedro (percussion guy) and the ex-guitarist had come to Ruby Room (the bar I was working at back then) to dj (!). Odd huh? So at last I could see them perform live.

After the concert while we were drinking 'Jameson' with Tommy and Groove (super cool lighting technician of the band), we listened to bands playing go go music. They told it's a Washington DC originated music genre which couldn't become mainstream because rap music surpassed it back in the day.

I don't know many Gogol Bordello songs, and I wouldn't even know who's who in the band, but when they finished the concert with my favorite song, which is Alcohol, I was so moved that I'm obsessively listening to it now after many Gogol-less years.

"Now you teach me how to ryhme, alcohol."
